THE AMALGAMATION
Three like-minded companies in the business of mutual insurance, all situated in Ontario, with pride in what they do and who they do it with. And they’re merging together. Makes sense.
As democratically-governed organizations, Farmers’ Mutual Insurance Company (Lindsay), Glengarry Mutual Insurance Company and Lanark Mutual Insurance Company presented the Board-sanctioned merger proposal to their policyholders for a vote in meetings held on September the 10th, 12th and 14th, 2013. The outcome of the voting was pretty overwhelming, with 95% of attendees in favour of the amalgamation.
As of October 25, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario approved the amalgamation application! Based on both the policyholder votes and regulatory rulings, The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group will commence operations as of January 1st, 2014.
