The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group was established on January 1, 2014, when three longstanding mutual insurance companies came together as one. This union represented our enduring commitment to preserving a way of life cherished by our Members for over a century.
Our roots are deeply planted in rural farm communities. Over time, we’ve expanded across much of Ontario, focusing on smaller places and wide-open spaces.
This is where individuality thrives alongside a strong community spirit. Neighbours have friendly conversations over backyard fences, children play freely, local residents support their local businesses, and our farming families keep us connected to the land. It’s a unique blend of characters that makes our communities special, and we take pride in being part of them.

As a proudly Canadian mutual insurance company, our policyholders are also Members, giving them a voice in shaping our organization. We believe in creating win-win scenarios by investing a portion of our profits back into the communities we serve.

Building Impact
Care To Grow
Several years ago, The Commonwell introduced The C.A.R.E. Program—Create A Ripple Effect. After providing over $7.2 million in direct community support – and countless volunteer hours – we updated our approach to focus more deeply on the communities within Commonwell Country. We call this “Care to Grow”.
Our Care to Grow initiative demonstrates our commitment to our communities with our goal being to make them more resilient and move towards a sustainable and brighter future. We believe the most meaningful way to make a difference is by investing in skill development, education, and training through our L.E.A.F. Grant program (Learning and Engagement Accelerator Fund), and supporting initiatives that strengthen food security, like SEEDit.
