The Playground Our Community Deserves in Kirkfield

We will construct an accessible, sustainable playground, available for use by our new Kirkfield child care program during weekdays and available to the wider community on weekends. We know children need to move their bodies, and we wish for all children in the area, regardless of abilities, to have access to a beautiful playground, filled with natural play equipment and sensory experiences. This playground will be a site of community-building, where children can bring their families to connect with each other through play.

Our design will support a sense of belonging for children and the community, through accessible, universal design, including a barrier-free path of travel throughout the playground, and accessible walkways, gates and doors throughout the yard. We will also use sustainable, natural materials throughout the playground. Accessible ground level components and sensory experiences throughout the playground will also support children with behavioural disabilities, which are often overlooked when accessible design focuses only on physical accessibility.
