Glen Walter Regional Park Tennis Court Resurfacing
Glen Walter Park Road Glen WalterK6H5R5
Target Completion Date: December 31, 2022
What is this project about?
The Glen Walter Regional Park is home to a large outdoor triple tennis/pickleball court surface. The current court surface has many cracks, the paint surface has faded and weathered over time and is in need of repair. The resurfacing project will include filling in cracks, smoothing out the asphalt, and coating the surface with a rubberized paint to optimize the playing experience and accessibility. The project will also include line painting on top of the new surface which will continue to accommodate both tennis and pickleball players.
Why is this project important to the community?
The Glen Walter Regional Park has many amenities including a 2 kilometer paved walking path, beach volleyball court, play structure, pavilion, baseball diamonds, soccer fields and a washroom building. The court in this location is used frequently between April to October for tennis and pickleball. Pickleball in particular is a very popular sport and has many players in the Glen Walter area that rely on this court to engage in this activity. If the court was resurfaced, it would support those that are already using the facility on a regular basis with the potential of expanding the tennis and pickleball community.
The Township of South Glengarry is an Age Friendly Community with 49% of the municipality’s population being over the age of 50. Part of the Age Friendly Community vision is to ensure we are providing residents with recreation that supports the health needs, well-being, and social connectivity of older adults. With many of the court users being older adults, this project aligns with the Age Friendly Community vision for South Glengarry.
