Development of Larocque Woods

What is this project about?

We wish to develop in a sustainable way the Larocque Woods and embelish the forest located in the heart of the Alfred village next to the Park. This 32 acres forest includes a pine plantation and a 100 years old sugar maple bush. We would like to upgrade the signage, have a container to store bicycles( Fat bikes, mountain bikes, snowshoes, snowmobile and equipement to groom the trails in the winter time)

Allow people to enjoy a pleasant outdoor space. This woodland could welcome people from Alfred and the region for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or biking. We would also like to create an educational environment by displaying information posters in partnership with elementary and high school students (about trees, animals and their habitats, birds and insects to be found in the forest,…). Several volunteers have already come to help maintain the trails.

Why is this project important to the community?

We would like to consult both young and old in the planning of our educational and physical activities. This is a project that will bring the community of Alfred and surrounding areas together, as it will touch on educational, community, vitality, well-being and physical activity aspects. It will be a tourist and recreational attraction in the region, summer and winter alike. It will be pleasant for people to return to a calm, fresh outdoor environment. It will also be a place where people can enjoy free individual, family or group physical activity. These days, it's important to maintain mental and physical balance to ensure well-being: that's the aim of our community project.
