Avonmore Community Park Concrete Pad
16315 Augustas St AvonmoreK0C1C0
Target Completion Date: May 31, 2022
What is this project about?
In 2019 the Avonmore Park Committee set out to redevelop our Park. This would include replacing all of the playground equipment (which had recently been deemed unsafe), double the size of our playground, build a concrete pad, and add a walking path to make our park more accessible to all.
Though covid slowed our fundraising efforts, it has not stopped us! This past spring, after raising nearly $100,000, our new playground was installed. Now we are shifting our focus to the completion of a concrete pad which our community can use as a basketball court in the summer and a skating rink in the winter.
Why is this project important to the community?
Since our playground was installed in the spring we've seen our community's children back outside, hanging out at the park. My own children head to the park every night after dinner to see their friends... something that never used to happen.
The addition of a concrete pad where kids can organize basketball games, ball hockey games, or just rollerblade around without worrying about cars will be hugely benefitical. Most importantly though, having a place to gather in the winter is ESPECIALLY exciting to us since there's no other gathering spaces for our children in the colder months.
Parents will be happy to hear the words, "I'm going skating with my friends." as their children head out the door (when they normally would have stayed inside playing video games).
