Alfred Taylor Community Center Park Enhancement Project – Skate/Parkour Park Addition
What is this project about?
This project is all about making our park more inclusive for all ages. Our rural population does not have a lot of opportunities to get youth engaged and happy to get outside and play in a positive way. The additional of a Skate/Parkour park area will widen the age group we will be ab le to attract to the park everyday. Currently our park structures are geared toward youth under the age of 10 and our older kids are having to commute to other communities around the city to participate in outdoor activities of higher interest to them. This requires a substantial commitment by parents, as a 20+ minute commute is often required. Our aim is to provide the youth of North Gower with options that allow for their independence to play and access various options within their own community. The plans for this park enhancement will see the current play area connected to the new skate/parkour park, for a much larger, more well-rounded play opportunity. There will also be room for future growth with possible additions of a walking track and stationary equipment for our older population.
